Hays County

View from Lone Man Road, Hays County

Hays County is located on the Edwards Plateau in the Texas Hill Country and is basically ranch land country.  But our rural region is building and rebuilding itself to accommodate the influx of new residents which explains all the road work you encounter.  Between the census of 2000 and 2010, Hays County population increased by 61 percent giving us a population of 57,107.

The only publicly managed Animal Shelter is in San Marcos, there are four privately managed cat rescue services in the county.  The following list of Hays County communities  provides an overview of animal services so you don’t have to search endlessly through the web, as I once did trying to figure out how to help three kitties that had landed on my door step.

Hays County is free of fire today and has, God be praised, missed the horrible destruction being wroght in Bastrop County.

My two beautiful little girl kitties came from ARF -- a rescue service in Wimberley. Maddie Bell, in the header photo, likes to help me make the bed.

Shelter cats are the best!
